Many of us love a good checklist, but in this week’s issue of Heart Shapers · Legacy Makers, I share what research on child psychology and development showed about parenting postures as a defining theme of strong parent-child relationships. It was the postures of warmth, structure, and autonomy support that were linked to the child's healthy physical, social, emotional, and cognitive development.
When I turned to Scripture, I saw the remarkable evidence of this same posture in how God relates to us.
When we notice behavior patterns as needs and skill gaps rather than disobedience, or we help name the missing skill and seek to provide the structure to build it, or we offer our steady presence while nurturing growing independence, that is warmth, structure, and autonomy support. I call it Notice It · Name It · Nurture It, and it inspired my book by the same name, available now on Amazon.
This week, I’m sharing a resource called Parenting Heart Posture to get you started.
